Rocksbox Review: December 2017

It’s the beginning of January, and you know what that means! It is time to spill the tea on my Rocksbox from December. This box was important for all of my style needs for the month and for the 24th because it was my BIRTHDAY! What self-respecting fashionista wouldn’t want new jewelry for her special day?

PS: Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday! It really made my day!

With this set, all three items were pulled from my wish list. My stylist for this set was Jamie, and she is the G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time)! While opening my package, I realized that all of the pieces were from Perry Street. If you are up to date on all my reviews, you know that Perry Street is my absolute FAVORITE!

Rocksbox_Diasehs_December17

If you are not up to date and wondering what a Rocksbox is…Let me bring you up to speed.

Rocksbox is a jewelry service that presents its members with a subscription box every month for a flat rate. The pieces are all designer brands, and come in an array of styles. If  this is your first time hearing about this company or want even more details…

Check out my first Rocksbox review!

Let us continue…

Let me clue you in on some of my expectations for this box:

“The best things in life are unexpected, because there were no expectations.” – Eli Khamarov

Well Eli, that’s all nice and dandy, but I was expecting a Rocksbox, I was expecting it to be amazing, I set my expectations HIGH, and I was not disappointed!

I was in need of some statement pieces with gold accents. One of the main things I wanted was a pop of color, but I didn’t want the pieces to look like they were spring/summer only. All-season jewelry are you out there?

I really wanted something coral or close to it. I have strayed away from wearing a lot of pink in my accessories, but I was feeling a little frilly so why not?

The final and most important was that I needed something that was white. I know that might sound strange, but hear me out. I was hoping for a necklace that had white in it to go with a particular outfit. The outfit is very streetwear appropriate, but it needs a feminine flare.

Here goes! *blows out birthday candles*

I received everything my little heart desired and then some! Let’s dig into this box shall we?

Compare & Contrast

When looking at the pictures on the Rocksbox site versus the actual pieces…The only thing that is a bit off was…ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I was surprised at the actual quality of the preview photos this time. The photos were true to color, so I received exactly what I expected!

I opened the box and yelled out

Zayum Zaddy!

BONUS: I HAVE A GIFT FOR YOU SO KEEP READING! IF YOU FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM, FACEBOOK & TWITTER… YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT.

After a well-deserved twerking session, I finally pulled the first piece from the box. These were my Perry Street Mallory Statement Drops. Yes, you read it correctly. I said drops!

Fifth_Harmony_Split

If someone were to ask me to describe these earrings without actually seeing them…I would definitely say these are Legally Blonde meets Betsey Johnson, and I feel like that’s fair. These earrings are post backed and have shiny gold plating over the brass pieces. I love that the pink stones are the only bright shade within the piece. The other stones are a medium tone champagne, a blush/wine shade and your oh so classic clear stones. I give this piece two extra points just for the spikes! Sooo…little babies you are a 10!

*Grabs loud speaker* Jamie, could you wrap those for me please? Thank you!

The Rocksbox Shine Insiders’ price for this pair of earrings is $59 USD

The retail price is $70 USD

Ladies, Gentlemen-Ladies, Pre-Ladies, Post-Ladies, Sistas and Homegirls…Have you ever looked at a necklace and debated how you would wear your hair in that very moment? You did this not realizing that was your make or break on buying that singular piece of jewelry? That was me the very second I opened the luscious black bag that this baby came in.

Perry Street_Colette_Far

My bun will be so huge! My lashes will be done! My nails will be so nice!

*Plays No Limit Remix by G-Eazy ft. A$AP Rocky, Cardi B, French Montana, Juicy J, Belly at 1:49 mark*

G_Eazy_Cardi_B_NL

This necklace is much more beautiful in person. The picture on the site does not do it justice! When natural light hits the necklace only then you can see all the colors in the iridescent stones. The other beautiful additions to this piece are the white stones and clear crystals.

The chain on the necklace measures out to 16”, and that’s LONG for a statement necklace. However, a little wiggle room never hurt anyone. Just like the previous piece, the necklace has pieces that have gold plating over brass. Now that I think about it…I love it more on the necklace than the previous piece.

R E A S O N: The gold that is over the necklace is not overly shiny. It has a natural and almost vintage flare.

Perry Street_Colette_Close

I can definitely see this being an all-season piece. Now that I have shared this piece and all of its glory, I am sure you are thinking…”Woman how much does it cost?” I’m so glad you asked!

The Rocksbox Shine Insiders’ price for this necklace is $63 USD

The retail price is $75 USD

Cop or Drop?

*Grabs loud speaker* Jamie, we might need a bigger bag!

This is getting serious. I have never been this excited about an entire box before.

Perry Street_Jane_Far

This next one brings me back to a childhood favorite because I have always loved turquoise! These are the Jayne Drops by Perry Street. While this precious pair is not gold plated, the silver plating makes the colors stand out beautifully. The Rocksbox description mentions clear and blue crystal accents. There are green and yellow crystal accents as well. These definitely give me fancy Coachella vibes!

Let’s take a closer look shall we?

Perry Street_Jayne_Close

The Rocksbox Shine Insiders’ price for this pair of earrings is $46 USD

The retail price is $55 USD

Cop or Drop?

*Pulls out megaphone* Jamie! That’s a wrap! Let’s tell them what they’ve won!

January | Goals, Travel & Charlie Puth

January_DiasehsHAPPY JANUARY & HAPPY NEW YEAR! This year went by fast. I know I am not the only one who thought that leading up to the 1st. Like myself, you were probably one of three people this year: the one who was dragging ass through the year, the one who made a list last January and ran through that thing like a 2017 bucket list, or the one who looked up at the last minute realizing it was all over. Please pick a category, and join me on this journey. If you are that one person, (yes…YOU) who wants an “other” category…Here you go…

OTHER – OTHER – OTHER

Yes, I am that extra.

Now, January has arrived *insert cheesy fireworks and bomb theme music*. I can’t count how many times I saw the classic, “New Year, New Me” slogan. Now this is what I need you to do for me…lean closer…closer…a little more…announcing your, “new me” goals to the world does not mean you will accomplish them. I am about to share with you a few ways to achieve your new goals without falling on your face or some other random body part.

The first and most important thing is to not list a goal that seems unattainable. It might make your list look too lit to quit, but if you want to lose 50 pounds, do not list, “Lose 50 Pounds” by itself. The realistic effort that it takes to lose that number of pounds will overwhelm you, and you might get discouraged. List a smaller goal, and place your final goal out to the side.

Example: Lose 15 pounds by summer | Lose 35 pounds by October

That does not look as intimidating, and if you continue to follow it you will achieve your goal!

Check out my MOTIVATION SUNDAE: HOW TO SLAY IN 2018 & ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS post for more tips and tricks.

At the beginning of every year I save for something I really want. It could be something for my cameras, a concert, a specific trip, etc. This year, I really want to go to Bali. If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I have made a post about this.

Things I want to do/see on my trip:

ATV Haunted Valley Waterfall Tour

Flyboarding at Nusa Dua

Visit the Pemuteran Underwater Temple

The Monkey Forest

The Aling Aling Waterfall or the Banyumala Waterfall

Basically I want to do everything I can while I can!

Destination chosen ✅

Decision made ✅

Lastly, if you didn’t know…If you weren’t sure…I love music. At this point in life you probably will not come across many people who don’t, but my passion is a bit different. I can’t function peacefully during the day without it. As of lately my favorite artist has been Charlie Puth. I am talking about songs on repeat, YouTube video playlist so lit and morning dance sessions to How Long. Let me stop rambling. I screamed at my computer when I went to do some exploring on Ticketmaster. I live in Georgia, USA and Charlie Puth is having a concert in Alpharetta, Georgia. This will definitely be one of my things to do for the year.

Focus Points for January

1 | Make a list of 5 to 7 attainable goals

2 | Start saving money for trip to Bali and Charlie Puth concert

3 | Post more frequent content so that you guys don’t strangle me

NOVEMBER | CREATIVITY, SUCCESS & BALANCE

HAPPY NOVEMBER LOVES! Let me start this post with a HUGE apology. I have truly been missing in action. Given, I could have given a warning, but I have my reasons which I will share right now…

  1. Work has been the biggest pain in my butt since my childhood vaccinations.
  2. Your girl needed time to reflect, relax and have some peace of mind.
  3. My mind was in a creative slump, and I needed time to regroup. Pinterest wasn’t helping me.

Due to all of these things, I went on a temporary hiatus from the second week in September to the second week in October. #HelloVacation

During this time, I discovered many things about myself, remembered a few things to help me get back on track and had a influx of creative ideas. I am back now, and I have a new outlook for the month of November. This month I want to embrace creativity as a whole. I don’t want to just focus on creativity within my blog, on Instagram, on Facebook, on Twitter or on YouTube. I want to expand my creativity to all platforms including my regular every day life. I’ve gotten back into doing a few projects, and I purchased some new camera equipment, so that has definitely given me a boost to get some new things done.

My work schedule has gotten back to a normal and consistent baseline as of lately. Now I have more time to physically sit down at my desk, get my life together and actually create some worthy content. I want to get back into the habit of posting at least twice a week and recording videos regularly. I’ve started doing so, but I need to be a little bit more consistent. Progress is what makes the world go around, and as long as I am progressing, I can be happy.

This month I also want to focus on success. Too often I find myself critiquing little things about my content or things at work, etc. I’ve come to the conclusion that I focus more on my failures than my successes. That is the WRONG thing to do when you are trying to get some pep in your step! There was a tip I learned a while back about making to do lists.

*Pauses to put on glasses and clear throat*

Instead of doing the traditional to do list as one long column of things that need to be done and checking them off as you go… you should make two columns/lists! The first column/list should be a to do list and the second should be a done list. Thank you Lilly Singh for making my life so much easier. This way, at the end of the day, you can see all the things that you HAVE accomplished and not just focus on the things that you HAVE NOT accomplished. All people/ideas in history that have been successful have reached that success with few or many drawbacks. No one or thing is perfect, and that is definitely something to remember.

The last focus point that I want to expand on today is balance. I love agendas, and anything that I can write down my little notes on because sometimes my phone doesn’t cut it. I am an old-fashioned pen and paper type of girl when it comes to planning out my weeks, months and year for that matter. Last year, I got a Big Happy Planner from a company called Me and My BIG Ideas, and I fell in love with it! This year I did the same thing, and it definitely helps me in the category of balance. Another part of my journey to balance is knowing when to just say NO. I’ve always been that person to get the job done, always think of other people before myself, never say never, and always be the one to find the answer.

Majority of the time these are all great characteristics to have… especially when you are in your mid 20’s and work for the government. *raises hand slowly*

However, it came to the point where I was saying so much “yes” and not enough “no” that my body started to shut down mentally and physically. I would always be tired, I would feel sick, I would always have a chip on my shoulder, and that’s just not the person that I am. I’ve gotten to the point now where if my body is telling me no and I know that I can afford to have time to myself, I will definitely take it, and it is paying off tremendously! #healthandwellness #selflove

Off Day Pamper Routine 2017

PamperRoutine_OffDay_Diasehs

I’m free! My busy work weekend is over, and I am exhausted. I’m an Event Coordinator, and I have a crazy work schedule at times so, when I can squeeze in a little self time…I AM ALL FOR IT!

For the past couple of months, I have been experimenting with a few new products and falling in love with some old favorites. This pamper day usually falls on a business day. That is huge for me! I am not disturbed as much because almost everyone I know is at work…Don’t make that face. I love you guys!

Let the pampering begin!

The first part isn’t exactly pampering at all. It’s part of my daily therapy…Coffee! I love having something hot to drink after waking up in the morning. I’m feeling in the fall spirit this morning, so I am going to enjoy some pumpkin spice creamer from Califia Farms. It’s so good! If you haven’t tried it, this is an absolute must have for any fall coffee junkie.

Pumpkin Coffee Creamer_Diasehs

To begin any magical off day, I must watch at least one episode of Sex and the City. The older the episode…the better! Everything Carrie Bradshaw makes my heart sing.

Sex and the City_Diasehs

I can’t start a pamper day without taming this crazy mess on my head! Ok, not so much a mess, but I don’t like going for a certain amount of days without washing my hair.

Can I get an amen? Thank you!

PamperRoutine_Diasehs

The Breakdown

This is the Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Shampoo and matching conditioner by Shea Moisture. I purchased this set from my local Walgreens.

The conditioner has a soft honey scent. The shampoo smells much more like the oils than the conditioner does. Both products are sulfate free and for dry hair. In my opinion, this is an all around set. They also contain African Rock Fig and Baobab Oil.

Shea Moisture Honey_Diasehs

According to the product description and my own personal research…

Manuka Honey has anti-inflammatory properties, it soothes the scalp and helps create a moisturizing barrier.

Mafura Oil has high levels of hair thickening & strengthening Oleic Acid. It also helps replenish oils that are stripped from the hair during our everyday activities.

The African Rock Fig contains Vitamin C, and this aids in keeping our hair strong and vibrant. This also improves the hair’s elasticity. #winning

Baobab Oil is rich in Omegas 3, 6, 9 and vitamins that repair the hair from root to end. This oil adds extra shine to the hair and protects it from pollution & UV rays.

After shampooing my hair, I will let my conditioner sit on my hair while I slide into the next part of my routine…

TheDryBrush_Diasehs

Eco Tools Brush_Diasehs

Dry brushing is somewhat new to me. In the past I would use a regular shower brush. The all over kind that you wet, cover in body wash and use to scrub all over. The first time I used this dry brush I was so confused. It hurt! I felt like I had been slapped in the leg, chest, neck, thigh…just everywhere. This is good for overall exfoliation, and it preps my body for the next part of my pamper routine..but beware…scrubbing too hard might make you change your religion. It WILL hurt.

EcoTools_Diasehs

This dry brush is from Eco Tools! You can snag this one at your local Ulta or Ulta.com

Time for some mango love! I will shower regularly, shave, rinse my hair and all that jazz after my dry brushing session. Once my hair is pinned back up and out of the way, it’s time to use my Shea Sugar Scrub by Tree Hut. The scent is Tropical Mango, and this one is my absolute favorite!

Tree Hut Tropical Mango_Diasehs

Tiny Tip: If you add a bit of coconut oil to this body scrub, it will moisturize the skin, add a nice glow to your body and hold the scent much longer! Who doesn’t love smelling like a tropical paradise?

Depending on what I have going on with my hair at this point (natural hair or weave), I generally let it stay in the clip until after my next step.

Time for a much needed face mask! I know my skin probably hates me right now due to all the mess I have been up to the past few weeks, but….that’s why I purchased the I’m Real Cactus Mask Sheet by Tony Moly. I got this particular one from Urban Outfitters when I was in Scottsdale, AZ. No Urban Outfitters? That’s ok! You can pick them up at Ulta, Amazon or the Tony Moly website.

Tony Moly Cactus Mask-Diasehs

This mask is loaded with so much yummy goodness, including prickly pear extract. Keep in mind…I did say MASK SHEET, so expect to look a little crazier than the usual.

TonyMoly_Cactus_Diasehs

After 20 minutes, I peeled the mask off and rinsed my face with warm water, then cold water to seal in all the greatness! I always add Vitamin E cream to my face and lip balm  after doing a mask.

Voilà! Cleansed, hydrated, happy skin!

PinkBow1_Diasehs

Time to slay! At this point I will finish drying my hair and style it to my liking. I’m feeling straight hair this go around! After having curls and waves for the past few days, and I need to switch it up.

HairPamper_Diasehs

The final portion of my pamper routine is to change my polish color! This past time I chose a coral pink color, and I am completely bored with that. Today’s choice is a nude shade. I love a nice, natural color sometimes. Strangely enough, the nail polish that I chose came from Old Navy! Before this polish I did not know that they sold nail polish at all. It’s a pale blush/nude polish by Tip Toe, and it is called Ballerina.

Review | Smashbox Studio Skin Foundation

Diasehs Smashbox Studio Skin

Ladies, Gentlemen & Unicorns…I have stumbled upon another amazing product!

The Backstory | As a WOC (Woman of Color), I struggle with finding the correct shade of foundation. It has nothing to do with my color matching skills or the product price point. I have an orange/warm undertone. That leaves me with a dilemma most of the time. It is generally one of two things…My skin will look like I have on funeral home makeup, or I will look three shades darker for no reason. Nothing against having a tan but I need my face and neck to match so that I don’t look like a cakepop! I have been playing around with this new foundation for a month or so just to make sure I really like it…This one is A1!

THE REVIEWS ON DIASEHS.COM ARE MY PERSONAL OPINIONS, AND NOT THOSE OF ANY ADVERTISER, COMPANY, AFFILIATE OR GROUP. IF THESE PRODUCTS PRESENTED WORK FOR ME, THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT THEY WILL 100% WORK FOR YOU. PLEASE READ ALL INGREDIENTS IN PRODUCTS BEFORE USE. THAT IS NOT JUST REGARDING THIS POST, BUT FOR ANY PRODUCT THAT YOU PUT IN OR ON YOUR FACE AND BODY. THANK YOU!

The Product | I PURCHASED this foundation from my local Ulta for $42.00 USD (excluding tax). I know some of you are saying…$42…I’m not spending that much on foundation blah, blah…etc. It is WORTH IT! I chose the shade 4.05, and that was an exact match for me.

Smashbox Studio Skin Shades

This product is available in 22 shades and has a very thin consistency. At first I was a bit thrown off. When you initially apply this product… it looks very dewy. After that, it settles into a natural/matte finish. Work quickly because it settles fast! This foundation passed the Beauty Blender Test! Most thin foundations get soaked into your beauty blender (Wet or Not). This one blended evenly and kept a nice finish all day. I don’t find myself looking oily throughout the day or worrying about looking like I just went for a run.

PS: You can layer this product for a medium to full coverage look. Let the previous layer settle before adding another one to prevent creasing.

The Rating |  ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆

Reason? Color, Finish, Longevity, Packaging & Cruelty Free!

I can’t give it 5 stars because no product is PERFECT, but for my skin…it’s pretty close!

When is the last time you stood in the mirror and said to yourself…

ilovemybody.jpg

It could have been this morning… or you might still be trying to come up with an answer. If you’re still thinking, then it has been too long. Taking care of your body is a way of loving your body. There is no shortcut to an amazing physique. You have to put in hard work to get great results.

Sometimes you might need a little extra…Inspiration.

When you are looking for a personal trainer, you want someone who can deliver that extra push and guide you in the right direction.

I would like to introduce you to Atlanta’s own Malcolm Wilson. Training since June 2012, Malcolm holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology, a ISSA Master of Fitness Sciences Certification, and he is a former Newberry College (Newberry, SC) football player. IMG_0882.PNG

q and a

What made you interested in personal training?

“I have been into fitness since I was 13 years old. To keep me out of trouble, my uncle would take me to the gym and train me. Next, I began playing football, and this kept me around fitness. I wanted to be the best athlete that I possibly could, so I knew I had to take my workouts to another level. I began training with an athletic trainer, and he trained me from high school all the way through college. I would perfect every mechanic of training that I was taught; on how to become bigger, faster, stronger, more explosive, and I would teach them to my teammates in high school and in college. It was in sharing what I had been taught through the intense experience of working out with my trainer that I found an interest in training others. It was because he helped to push me to the height of my athletic ability, that he impacted my life. I wanted to share my passion, and help others to reach their true fitness potential in the same way. Inside of every repetition, every set, every exercise, every drill, and every workout was a challenge, and I loved every second of overcoming each one. From there, my family, friends, and random people would always ask to workout with me or ask for some kind of workout advice. As I took on clients with non-athletic fitness goals, I had to learn the difference between personal training and athletic training. In order to perfect my craft doing both, I earned my personal training certification . It was the mentality that my trainer instilled in me that gave me the greatest feeling in the world. It was the crazy workouts that taught me the things I needed to know, and it was the combination of the two that changed my life and made me want to share my training with the world.”

What has fitness done for you?

I have been working out since the age of 13, so fitness has always been apart of my life. It has molded me, both physically and mentally. Physically, fitness has made my muscles bigger, my body stronger, and my legs faster. I love my physique and how I can perform physically, but it is what fitness has done to my mind that I love the most. Mentally, fitness has sharpened my mind to take on and handle anything.

What are your future goals?

I have three future goals that I am currently working towards. There are alot of trainers in the city of Atlanta, and I want to be best….I want to change the profession of fitness and change as many peoples lives as I can in the process.

To set my services apart from everyone else, I have began developing a new training system that will deliver a more effective workout for my clients. Next, I want to take my new training system and open my own gym/training facility and continue to spread my training throughout the city.

Lastly, I recently got into fitness modeling, it was a great experience and I would like to do more of it.

iphone.jpgMost memorable moment? (Training a Client or Personal Moment)

This came from my first training job, and I was working for LA Fitness at the time. I began to constantly film my workouts and post them to Instagram and Facebook. I would always come up with the wildest but fun workout ideas in order to show my athletic ability on my posts. After a few months of this, an Adidas representative from Germany reached  out to me on Instagram and invited me to New York to do a photo shoot modeling their new line of training gear for the upcoming seasons. It was because they loved my posts that they wanted me to put my talent on film in their new gear. Going to New York and modeling for Adidas was the most fun thing I have ever done, mainly because I literally got to workout in front of a camera for 10 hours. I loved every second of the process because working out took me to a place that I had never been to do something that I had never done before, it just shows that hard work really does pay off.

3  “Not So Commom” Nutrition Tips

1. Consume essential fats in order to burn body fat
There are two types of fat, essential fat (good fat) and saturted fat (bad fat). A lot of people would think that in order to lose fat they will need to remove it from their diet. However, eating this macronutrient can actually help you to metabolize and burn more fat. With this being said, everyone needs a healthy balance of the three macronutrients; protein, fats, and carbs in their diet.  It is best to meet your protein needs first and then adjust your fat and carbohydrate intake accordingly.  Eating more protein and essential fat means eating less carbohydrates.  This will reduce your overall insulin (fat cell creator and storer) levels. Lower insulin levels allow your body to use fat cells for energy and fuel your muscles during your workout instead of storing them in your body.

2. Avoid eating “white foods”
White foods refer to processed and/or refined foods such as white flour, white rice, white sugar, white bread, pasta, crackers, and cereal. This excludes foods such as onions, cauliflower, and white beans; this is because these are natural foods and they rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytonutrients.  On the other end of the spectrum, processed ”white foods” have been stripped of their nutritional value and have almost no health benefits.  While these foods may taste good, they are not satisfying to the body and therefore leave you over fed and undernourished. This means you will be hungry because your body is craving the nutrients it is not receiving, this usually leads to over eating and eventual weight gain. So be sure to stay away from processed foods and instead eat more whole and natural foods to deliver much needed nutrients to your cells.

3. Cook with more herbs and spices instead of cooking with salts
We get an overwhelming amount of sodium in our diets. Too much sodium causes water retention, higher blood pressure, and can lead to athlersclorosis (hard arteries). In order to aviod this, it is best to cook with more herbs and spices instead. This is because herbs and spices provide healthy antioxidants, boost the metabolism, detox the body, and aide in weight loss. Cooking with too much salt and consuming it for too long without exercise wil increase blood pressure and lead to heart disease. Herbs and spices such as: garlic powder, ginseng, mint leaves, curry, cumin, basil, allspice, caynne pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg or ginger to name a few while having health benefits can also replace the taste of salt.  Cooking with herbs and spices can help with weight loss.

1 Common Weight Loss Misconception

Once I begin training people, it is often that I hear my clients say that they didn’t eat anything during the day because they are trying to “lose weight”. This has to be one of the biggest misconceptions when it comes to weight loss today for two reasons. First because our body has its own survival mechanism for periods of low caloric intake When you don’t eat food your body has to work and survive with little to no calories. In response to this our bodies go into “famine” or survival mode and the body will slow its metabolism (the rate at which your body burns calories at rest) down in order to hold onto any incoming calories in order to protect itself. Instead of starving ourselves, it is better to eat several properly portioned meals a day within two to three hours of one another in order to keep our bodies out of survival mode.  This will also boost our metabolism and burn calories that will be used for energy. Once you train your body to eat this way,  your body will be able to produce and utilize more energy for all daily activities. Second, we have to understand that calories are a measurement for the amount of energy that is inside anything we eat/and or drink. So it is important to fuel our bodies with proper nutrition in order for us to have energy to carry out our everyday functions. Eating more regularly is how we will properly lose weight, not by starving our body.
