Arch & Point: The Brow Campaign

Header
Your eyebrows set the balance for your face…they keep things in order so to speak. Before you can achieve this “balance”, there are some steps that you must take!

Ask yourself, “What is my face shape?

Why is this important? There is no such thing as the “perfect brow shape” that suits everyone. Also, if you have spent years waxing and tweezing…you may not know what your natural brow shape is. Don’t go back and try to find childhood photos right now. Just pay attention.

There are 6 categories of face shapes that majority of people fit into: Square, Oval, Round, Heart, Diamond and Oblong.

If you’re not sure what your face shape is, don’t worry. SNAP A SELFIE!! A front facing picture will help you. Do not smile or make any expressions in this photo. You are doing this to find your natural face shape. Now let’s analyze the picture.

If the sides of your face are straight, your face is almost as wide as it is long, and your jawline is defined with a small curve… You have a Square face shape.

Celebrity example: Cara Delevingne

If your forehead that is slightly wider than your chin, your jawline is a bit rounded, and your face is longer than it is wide…You have an Oval face shape.

Celebrity example:  Beyoncé Knowles-Carter

If your cheekbones are the widest part of your face and your jaw is a bit curved then you have a Round face shape. Some associate this face shape with having “chubby cheeks“, but that is not always the case.

Celebrity example: Mila Kunis

If you have a long, pointed jawline, and your chin is the smallest point of your face…You have a Heart face shape. This face shape is sometimes called an “Inverted Triangle” for obvious reasons, but the chin area does not have to be an exact point!

Celebrity example: Miranda Kerr

If your chin is narrow and pointed, your cheekbones are high and your hairline is narrow in width, then you have a Diamond face shape. This face shape is the least common.

Celebrity example: Kourntey Kardashian

If your forehead, cheeks and jawline are pretty much the same width all the way down…You have an Oblong face shape. Think of this face shape as a rectangle.

Now that you know your face shape…Let’s find your brow shape!

Square face shapes are balanced by eyebrows that are strong, but they must have a slight curve. The goal is to make an “even playing field”. Your jawline is the most distinct feature. A strong brow will complement nicely. Feel free to go a shade darker than your usual brow color, but NEVER use black! It will come off extremely harsh.

Ohhh lucky lucky you! If you have an Oval face, the struggle is not that bad. Your face is balanced already. A brow with a soft angle will do your face justice. Just make sure that your arch is not too defined. Pin thin arches are a no go!

Round face shapes can take this post title and run with it. Arch & Point!! Brows with high and sharp angles add a vertical point in the face. This will make the face appear a bit longer. Let your brow follow a slight upward slant until you get to your arch.

Heart face shapes are a bit tricky. The main focus is already directed toward the eyes and forehead. No major arching is necessary. Try to keep the arch semi-straight, and make sure your brows are neatly trimmed. This will soften up the look around the eye area.

Brows for Diamond shaped faces are similar to those with Oval face shapes. A nice curved brow will balance the face. The goal is to make the widest portion of your face (cheek area) appear more narrow.

For Oblong face shapes, very arched brows will make the face appear longer than it already is. We don’t want that! A straighter brow will serve as a “horizontal” marker, and will make the face appear a bit shorter because they extend outward.

Pyer Moss: NYFW & Black Lives Matter

#BLACKLIVESMATTER

Designers showing at New York Fashion Week have always found a way to bring hard hitting news to the runway.

This year, Kerby Jean-Raymond’s collection for the label Pyer Moss hit home!

Jean-Raymond incorporated videos of police violence during the show. Some of these incidents include: The Eric Garner case, police brutality at the Texas pool party, chasing of suspects and breaking of car windows. At the age of 28 years, this designer is really turning heads in a major way!

The collection is for Spring 16′, and incorporates “restraint“. With the collection being majority white in color, some of the pieces have very interesting accents: Red stripes that portray gunshot wounds, a jacket in reference to Eric Garner saying “Breathe, breathe, breathe”, and a pair of boots with the names of victims on the side.

Jean-Raymond invited some family members of those who were victim to police brutality. This is his first time bringing this form of activism into a show, and it will probably be the last. The designer has lost a European account that blamed the cancellation of business on “lack of space“. He decided to take charge because he felt as though many others were not stepping up to the plate.

wrbnitul1p9jbsrbrzi2

Jean-Raymond originally made “They Have Names” shirts for his Spring 15′ line, but did not use them for the show. He feared backlash and did not add the piece to the show.  Later he released the piece for sale to the public. This year he put fear aside and took control!

Disclaimer: In no way I am bashing police or their departments. This is fashion, and fashion speaks for itself. Don’t shoot the messenger.

Artist Spotlight: Dre Price

Vision is a captivating thing.  It opens your eyes….It evokes emotion within you…. & the end result could even bring about a new perspective, but….when is the last time your vision consumed you?  A moment so passionate….A moment so emotional?
dre header
I introduce to you the talented Andréa Price.

Because her vision consumed her….We now know her artistry….Dre Price Art.

She’s Tennessee native, but long time H-Town representer with crazy creativity!
I came across Dre back in 2013 when she portrayed a very bold character named Marty in a web series called Girl Play.

I have kept up with her since then, and she has accomplished so many amazing things.

I can honestly say that she is one of my favorite artists, and I specifically wanted her for the first Artist Spotlight segment! Thank you Dre for letting me get in your head for a little bit.
q & A
Your artwork is truly amazing, and very different from any that I have seen. What inspires you, and how do you stay motivated?
“Thank you! Life inspires me. I’m in a place right now, where I am using my daily experiences, photography and dreams to influence my work.  I feel the work transitioning into a more personal space.”

I read in your bio on dreprice.com that after your accident in 2011, Dre Price Art was founded. Is there a difference between Dre Price and Andréa Price?

“No, same person.  Dre is a nickname that friends and family call me. It seemed natural to go by that. Dre is also a bit androgynous, so I appreciated the added mystique of it.”

You have your foot in so many doors….Whether it be acting, painting, modeling, illustrating or photography. Are you working on any new projects that you can speak on?
“I was exploring a lot of artistic mediums in my past.  Experimentation is important in finding your voice as an artist. Visual art and photography are my focus now. I’m working on a few videos and some paintings.  I’ll be releasing some original smaller works on my site, dreprice.com very soon.  I also, plan to have a solo exhibition sometime in 2016 as well as many travels.”

You are a very soulful woman that has a way with words. What is your favorite quote to live by?

“There are so many quotes I’ve fallen in love with.  One that rings loudly right now is, ‘Comparison is the thief of joy.’- Theodore Roosevelt.  It’s a lesson that took me a long time to learn and something I encourage everyone to grasp.  You’ll be a much happier person for it.”

Throughout life, I am sure you have gained so much from all your experiences.
What would you say are the top three most important things to you?

“I truly have.  Three things, I’ve gained from my life experiences are:

1. Love as much as you can.

2. Believe in yourself.

3. Don’t wait to travel the world.”

Wanderlust: Events, Places & Culture

Travel is something everyone experiences in life. Whether it be moving to a new town or going on an adventure.

For those of you that love to travel, you may be familiar with the word WANDERLUST. For those of you that are not…

Wanderlust is a feeling. It is a strong desire to travel and explore the world.

There have been a few places & events that I have been wanting to see. I figured….Why not share with you?

Lets take a trip

The Color Run

This fun & colorful 5k run is currently the single LARGEST event series in the WORLD! The Color Run events are held in 50+ countries. If you’re not big on running, that is perfectly ok. This event is about having a great time! The best part is that this race has no time limit!

How does the race work?

Ticket prices are broken up into two categories: Team Runners & Individual Runners.

Prices for Team Runners are as low as $35.00/person and can reach almost $60.00/person.

Prices for Individual Runners are as low as $39.50/person and can reach almost $60.00/person.

The sooner the purchase | The cheaper the ticket!

Participants start the race in a white shirt (Please do not show up in any other color). This is obvious because the colors will show up much better this way!

At each kilometer, participants are doused in crazy & vivid colors that can range from hot pink to aqua blue.

Once you are finished with the race…it’s not over! The Color Run hosts a Finish Festival. This is a huge party that includes music, dancing, food & color throws (You get one color throw of your own at the beginning of the race, and additional color throws can be purchased at the festival).

The Color Run is all about:

  • Healthiness: Promotion of a healthier lifestyle.
  • Happiness: This race is known as the “Happiest 5k on the Planet“.
  • Individuality: Everyone is welcome, & everyone runs for their own reasons.
  • Giving back: Millions of profits gained from Color Run events have been donated to charities (HandsOn Jacksonville, Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City, Maui United Way & the Cool Kids Campaign are just to name a few!)

Coachella: The Coachella Valley Music & Arts Annual Festival

This festival is so massive that it is broken up into TWO WEEKENDS! Coachella is held at Inland Empire’s Coachella Valley in the Colorado Desert. This event is in April, and the lineups are identical, so if you miss the first weekend…just go to the second one. You really can’t lose!

Not just one genre of music is showcased at this festival. They have branched out to cover  rock, indie, hip hop, and electronic dance music! Some of the artists that performed at this years festival are: The Weeknd,Tyler the Creator, Azealia Banks, Drake and David Guetta.

When you enter Coachella, the set times for performances are posted everywhere, but if you forget a time just check the site. On the official site you can build your own schedule as well!

Art will be everywhere, and you can not miss most of the pieces because some of them are just….HUGE!

I did mention that Coachella is in the desert right? Well just in case I didn’t (I did), IT’S IN THE HOT…SCORCHING…DESERT! There I think I got my point across. Please stay hydrated. Wear clothes that are light and airy…don’t go almost naked though…unless you are into that kind of thing. The weather at night is a completely different case! Bring a few layers with you because it could get a bit cool.

Coachella does have a long list of restricted items! Please make sure you look over this before you start packing your bags. Some of these restricted items are: drugs of any kind (This includes medical marijuana.), recorders, chains, flags, pets (Leave little scruffy at home!), professional cameras, sharpies/markers, hula hoops ( Don’t look at me crazy…I don’t know why either!), selfie sticks, fireworks, umbrellas, tents, laser pointers, outside food/drinks, etc. For the rest of the list CLICK HERE! >>>> Festival Info!

There will be vendors everywhere selling food, clothes and all kinds of things! As of 2015, credit cards are accepted, but if you feel the need to carry cash…there are ATM machines available. There are also cell phone charging stations for those that bring them, and DAY parking is free!

Venue gates open at 11:00 AM each day and the last set generally ends around 12:30/1:00 AM.

Check out the official Coachella site for more information! CLICK HERE! >>>> The Coachella Valley Music & Arts Annual Festival

Rio Carnival

This week long event is held in February every year, and is known for its explosive showcase of culture! There will be a massive parade, beautiful costumes, food, music and all of Rio to see!

Rio Carnival is generally broken up into many parts, but there are two types that are a “Must See“: Street Parties & The Parade!

Street Parties are literally the parties that just don’t stop. They occur every day… all day…for 1394413485-block-party-and-street-carnival-in-porto-alegre_4145152the entire week practically. There will be dancing, food and live music! The individuals who organize these street parties are called Blocos. This is the time to enjoy the city, and all that it has to offer. Just make sure you wear comfortable shoes and carry some form of identification on you. Many of these parties are on the Rio Carnival event list. The party located on Avenida Rio Branco, Downtown is a musical competition like no other. It starts on Saturday and ends on Tuesday. The largest and most organized party is on Cinelândia Square! Did I mention that street parties are free?

The Parade is something that you will always remember! The parade is located at the Sambadrome. This is where the beautiful costumes and amazing floats come in!

Warning: There will probably be some form of nudity…I’m just saying. The parade happens each night during the week of Carnival. The show is LONG! (Ends around 5:00 AM). I promise that it is completely worth it! The parade is a competition of Samba schools, and the schools are judged at the end of the week. It is beautiful to those who are watching, but these dance teams are giving it all down this half a mile runway! I am sure those costumes & bright lights are no joke.1424052197484

If you are interested in the history of Rio Carnival, the Samba Museum is located inside the Sambadrome at the very end of the runway. It is directly under the arches of Apotheosis Square.(You couldn’t miss them if you tried!)

Costs & Fees

You knew this was coming….Don’t act like you didn’t.

Now in the grand scheme of things, it’s not bad at all. It just depends on where you are coming from. (Expedia anyone?) Once you are in Rio for Carnival, the only tickets you will need are for the parade and any clubs that you may decide to attend after certain events.

GET YOUR PARADE TICKETS AHEAD OF TIME!

I can not stress this enough! The tickets for the parade go fast, and the prices go up even faster. They start at $47.00/person and shoot up after that! The end is somewhere around $771.00/person. The VIP Boxes are much..MUCH different. To find information for Rio Carnival VIP Boxes CLICK HERE! >>>>Tickets & Prices

Golden Rule: Travel in groups!

We travel not because we want to escape life, but so that we can experience it.
